Windshield Install Instructions

Windshield Install Instructions

For the mirror mount windshield:

Step 1

To start the installation clear the scooter headset of any other attachments. Find threaded holes that secure the mirror to the scooter. The brackets that secure the windshield arms will line up with these holes. You may need to remove the handlebar mirrors temporarily to secure the windshield brackets.

Step 2

Install the windshield brackets and the mirror brackets and screw them in with the provided bolts. Keep them loose initially so that you can tighten them later. Then slide the windshield arms into the brackets now attached to the headset. Use the remaining brackets and bolts with rubber cushions to attach the windshield. If done right, the windshield should fit over the top of the headset frame over the headlight.

Step 3

Tighten everything down comfortably. Do not over-tighten the bolts holding onto the windshield or you could crack the windshield plastic. Alternatively, don't over-tighten the bracket bolts into the headset or you could strip the headset. The threads in the headset are aluminum which warps easily compared to steel metal bolts.

When the installation is all secure, take your scooter for a short ride. You may need to adjust the windshield to the right position so that it sits comfortably for you in its brackets. Tighten down as needed if something is still loose. Warnings Windshields for are made of hard plastic. While they don't usually shatter, they can crack and scratch over time. Take care when putting anything next to the scooter when it is parked. Falling items can cause damage or put a big enough scratch in the windshield that it gets permanently damaged.

The windshield brackets also come loose over time due to the vibrations of the scooter. Occasional tightening will solve this problem. Otherwise the windshield will eventually come loose enough to flop backwards due to wind pressure when driving

For the Handlebar Mount Windshield:

Mounting Instructions Bar Clamp Mount

  1. These are a little generic because of the large variety of applications this windshield can be used for. Open up the clamp of the mounting bracket.
  2. Position the two sides of the clamp around the scooter handlebar with the bolt face side pointing toward the front of the bike and the side for the swivel joint facing the rider.
  3. Hold the clamp part of the mounting bracket onto the handlebar with one hand and reinsert the bolt with the other. Replace the washer and joint on the mounting bracket then tighten the mounting bracket by hand.
  4. Repeat the above steps on the other handlebar using the second mounting bracket.
  5. Hold the windshield up to judge if the mounting brackets are positioned where they need to be. Tighten the mounting brackets with either an Allen wrench or screwdriver, depending upon the bolt head.

Attaching the Mounting Rods

  1. Separate the mounting barrels that will attach to the windshield from the mounting rods using either the Allen wrench or a Phillips head screwdriver. If the mounting barrels did not come attached to the rods, skip this step.
  2. Insert the first mounting rod into the swivel joint on the handlebar and position it at the angle you want.
  3. Turn the nut on the swivel joint clockwise by hand to keep the rod in place.
  4. Repeat with the second mounting rod on the other side of the scooter's handlebar.
  5. Hold the windshield up to the rods to make sure they will hold it in the position you need. Adjust the mounting rods if necessary. They should be the same height and an equal distance from the center of the scooter.

Attaching the Windshield

  1. Insert the barrel rod holders into the windshield through the pre-drilled holes with the mounting barrels facing toward the back of the bike. Some windshields will require you to attach the rods to the windshield before inserting them into the mounting brackets already installed on the scooter handlebars.
  2. Use either an Allen wrench or screwdriver to tighten the barrel mounts to the windshield, using the screws enclosed with the brackets. If your windshield rods attach directly to the windshield and not into barrel mounts, skip this step.
  3. Position the rods in the holes on the mounting barrels attached to the windshield.
  4. Move the windshield up or down on the rods to adjust the height to where it best protects the rider. You may have to loosen the wing nuts by hand on the mounting brackets to do this.
  5. Tighten the mounting brackets' wing nuts to keep the windshield at the desired height, then tighten all the screws on the barrel joints attached to the windshield and the clamps attached to the handlebars using either the Allen wrench or screwdriver, depending upon the screw head
